Tips when Applying to a Philippines College Scholarship

Before we proceed with the specific scholarships, their schedule, benefits, and requirements, let us first talk about how you can increase your chances of getting at least one college scholarship. Remember that there will be limited scholarship slots and you will be competing with multiple applicants.  We recommend you follow the tips below to increase your chances of claiming a scholarship slot:

  • Start Looking for Scholarship Programs as Early as Possible

The scholarship programs listed below will have different periods of application. Some of them start accepting applicants as early as the first month of the year. If you are serious about looking for scholarships, you should look for programs in your last year of high school.  By learning about the different scholarship options early, you will know in advance if you are eligible and you will have more time to collect the documentary requirements you may need.

  • Be Aware of the Application Schedule

In most cases, you will only have a month or two to submit your application requirements to a given scholarship program. This is an extremely short period to work with if you do not have your requirements ready. If you find a program where you think you are eligible, take note of the application period and start working on the necessary paperwork.

  • Read and Follow the Instructions

Each scholarship application has specific requirements and instructions. Pay close attention to the guidelines and make sure you provide all the necessary documents and information. Be mindful of deadlines and submit your application before the due date.

  • Gather All Requirements in Advance

Begin your scholarship search well in advance to allow ample time for research, gathering application materials, and completing the necessary paperwork. Many scholarships have early deadlines, so don’t procrastinate.

  • Check the Participating Schools
Most scholarship programs work with partner schools. Chances are you already have a university/college or two in mind. It’s best to start submitting applications for scholarships in the schools you want to go to.
  • Check the Scholarship Page of your Current School
If you already know which school you will go to, the best place to start looking for scholarships is the school’s admission and scholarship office. Each institution offers in-school programs where prospective students can apply. The admissions office will pair you with a program where you will best fit.

  • Apply to As Many As You Can
Just because you got beaten by other applicants in one scholarship program does not mean that you should give up. Apply to as many programs as you can to increase your chances of being accepted. At the end of the day, those who work harder are rewarded.

  • Keep your Application Documents Organized
Keep track of all the scholarships you apply for, their deadlines, and the required documents. Create a checklist or spreadsheet to stay organized and ensure you don’t miss any important details.
